RIM is said to have made a proposal to Indian authorities that would keep the BlackBerry instant messaging service working in the country pass the August 31st blockade-enforcing deadline.

RIM’s offer is to enable manual access to BB messages before the deadline, with automated access set to provided by the end of this year. The solution presented by RIM could appease India’s regulators who want to monitor potentially eVIL activity going on through the BlackBerry service. Unfortunately, this doesn’t resolve the problem with the BB email service, which is also criticized for its lack of love for government snooping.

RIM is still negotiating with India’s authorities in order to avoid the ban on its services.
