BlackBerry PlayBook hands-on (again)
Category: Apps | Apr 04, 2011 |

Check out our hands-on with a BlackBerry PlayBook. We run through the browser, camera, photo and video app, in addition to launching some Quake and even Elmo games — all multitasking.
Video Rating: 4 / 5
@mobitureblog its hulus fault. Hulu is blocking.
@iluvuillkillu The whole Flash argument is the most ridiculous thing these companies use to draw in consumers. Yeah it supports Flash but not in the ways people want such as Hulu.
@mobitureblog Nothing is ever late. Things are changing, always. RIM has done a great job in optimizing the software with the hardware. The size is perfect. It does great gaming (60fps). Supports both Flash and HTML5(Look how smooth flash works in the other videos). Now, moreover playbook can run android apps. RIM has confirmed 8-10 hours of battery life(Which is excellent for the amount of multitasking it does). Isnt it a great thing? All they have to do is market this thing well.
@deryck999 they are demoing the true multitasking capability of the playbook. There is a settings to pause the apps running in the background. It will also increase the battery life.
@yyk1127 ga usah songong deh lo, gw sumpahin elo yang mati duluan ketabrak busway, preett
The playbook is just so cool, true multi-tasking and it’s so smooth. Can’t wait to get it.
But there’s one thing seems really strange to me, why’s the game still playing even i have minimised it?? Who is playing the game?? The computer itself??
Either this thing has 1GB+ RAM or the OS is VERY WELL optimized.
Running all those app (all singing, all dancing LOL) with a PC game plus a video playback without any noticeable lag while using is just great.
This thing needs to be released quickly.
i hope it’s not DOA
You could output the 1080p video over hdmi to tv while you played quake and surf the web. This thing is gonna kill.
@ChiefQualakon, my bad. That’s an excellent (imaginative!) use case.
Actually the option menu allows you to configure if you want it to pause or not when you minimize the app. =]
I would rather keep the video playing always and hit the “pause” button if I want it to pause. I don’t make videos/music/apps pause when I alt-tab on my pc…
Actually, I was agreeing with you. There are many times on my PC when I watch youtube videos strictly for the music. I could have youtube playing in the background while, say, playing a game.
@peter9477 What if you were listening to a music video but didn’t want to watch the video, maybe web browsing or doing email? Imagination!
Why would you say playing a video in the BG is useless? It’s just letting people know the ability of PlayBook on True multitasking.
What if they later release a OS version that could allows you to watch video on the Left side of the screen and MSN on the Right side of the screen?
I want one sooo bad!!!!
pause @ 1:15 and you’ll see you can desactivate an app when not in full screen.
@Top0ne It will support Android apps, yes.
release date ? please
He can’t imagine any possible reason to have a video running while minimized? One obvious one is that you hit a boring part, and want to switch away to check on email or something… You can still hear the sound so you know when to switch back. Also can glance at the live thumbnail view any time you’re between apps etc. Not really so hard to think of reasons… if you have an imagination.
This thing is fast and multitasking is crazy I like it. It would be great if supported android market
You can set minimizing actions in settings where you scrolled above. that can pause any running app. man i feel so unlucky knowing everything about this tablet and cant get my hands on. well whatsoever, BGR always love Apple
I still think it’s too late for RIM. Plus, they totally ripped off webOS for the PlayBook.
